Interview with Bitmob

With mobile gaming on the rise it seems about the time to look at a company who has been doing it for years. Since 2004 Orange Pixel has been in the mobile phone market. Now I am not sure about you, but for me six years is a long time. Getting a chance to talk with Pascal Bestebroer who is the CEO for Orange Pixel.

Toby Davis: Please, tell me who you are and about your job here?

Pascal : I’m one of two persons working at OrangePixel, and I’m basically everything from CEO to developer to graphics guy. The other person is Aline, who takes care of most of the day to day office tasks and helping out with the concepts and testing of the games.

TD: What would you say is the drive behind your games and how they are perceived by gamers in the mobile platform area?

Interview with Gamers with Casts

We recently reviewed the iPhone / iPod Touch game DynamoKid Touch by OrangePixel, a mobile game studio.  Given the opportunity to ask some questions about the game and the studio’s upcoming projects, we jumped at the chance to find out more.

Scott Morse: On OrangePixel’s website it’s mentioned that upcoming updates for DynamoKid Touch include a bug fix and the addition of a new world.  Are there any other updates we can look forward to in the future?

OrangePixel: The update mentioned on the site is now live, but we are already hard at work on real updates. A new world will be added, together with a world-selection map (like the old school Mario games). The update will contain many small enhancements on top of the new world… and after that we plan to add more worlds in following updates… we are not done with this game yet! – check the site for a great trailer of the new world we are introducing.. it’s hot!

Interview about Mini Plane

Android App Review Source:

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

OrangePixel:

After a couple of bigger games, we wanted to design a game that had very simple game mechanics but that we could easily add new features and updates to. So we took a simple well known Flash-game idea, and turned it into something fun and full of features. So Mini Plane was born, and we have already added a big update with a new second world (unlockable by collecting three super stars) and have many different updates plannend in the coming months. Players can also send us their update ideas on twitter @orangepixel and we will take the best ideas and possibly add them to the future updates!

Android App Review Source:

What’s your personal favorite Android App that you did not develop?

OrangePixel:

Twigee, a Twitter client that never really gets much attention inbetween the bigger names, but it really is a fast, small and great working Twitter client that basically does all I need from such an App. It needs more attention as it easily beats the more well known names out there!

Interview about Toddlers ‘Shake it’

Android App Review Source:

How did you get into developing apps?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

I started OrangePixel about 5 years ago, and have been developing mobile games, on the Java platform, since then. Android is simply the next step. The development language is basically the same, but Android adds alot of extra power and options to what you can do with games and applications.

Android App Review Source:

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Pascal Bestebroer from OrangePixel:

The game is based on one of my old Java mobile games, where you used a single button to shoot the Toddler into space, and then use that same button to jump on clouds, angels, etc. The whole one-button gameplay thing was really the hype at that time.. but for Android we wanted to use very Android-specific controls like the shaking, tilting, etc. The result is: Toddlers – Shake it!

GamesOnDeck interviews OrangePixel CEO

Gamesondeck banner

“Orange Pixel are a developer and distributor of mobile games that runs a mobile gaming community, Rumble-X, works with small independent developers such as Plastic Cow Games (Arcade Pool) and Smallfry (Brik-Link) and offers its games in ad-supported versions on Gamejump.com. Games On Deck talked to CEO Pascal Bestebroer about the company and these choices.”

Games On Deck: Tell us about Orange Pixel.

Pascal Bestebroer: I founded OrangePixel in 2004, and I have since been trying to keep the focus on original and fun game concepts for every type of player. Be it casual, hardcore, male, female, old, young: games just have to be fun. OrangePixel has been trying to stay away from the Tetris and Space Invaders clones, and we have been releasing a wide variation of games including our various attempts at designing good playable one thumb games. In short, OrangePixel is an indie developer with the balls to be creative and do our own thing.
